Challenge
Fiksal was born out of a real need: people were communicating more than ever in written form, but without the tools to assess how their words might be received. Legacy writing tools focused on grammar or structure, but they did little to help prevent misunderstanding, offense, or reputational harm. Companies, meanwhile, were feeling the impact. Lost customers, legal exposure, internal conflict, and culture breakdowns due to poorly phrased messages. The problem was compounded by the fast-paced nature of digital communication. There was no space for reflection, and no real-time support for people trying to get it right. Existing tools lacked depth, context awareness, or integration with the platforms where people were actually working. Fiksal needed to bridge this gap with an intuitive AI product that felt less like a gatekeeper and more like a personal guide to better communication.
Solution
Motomtech joined Fiksal as their full Technology Department as a Service, bringing together product, design, and engineering talent to shape the platform from the ground up.
Phase 1
Conceptualization
We began with deep discovery sessions involving Fiksal’s founding team, linguists, and DEI experts. Together, we mapped out a platform vision that would combine real-time AI feedback, education, and tone analysis, all wrapped in an intuitive user experience. Our team designed the full UX/UI across both the web application and the browser extension, building a system that could respond to live writing input while offering helpful, contextual suggestions.
Phase 2
Software Prototype
Fiksal’s AI engine was designed to detect both critical and non-critical language issues. When problematic phrases appear, the platform immediately flags them and provides the user with a rationale, alternative language, or a tone adjustment suggestion. If a message contains language flagged as critical, the “send” button is temporarily disabled, giving the writer the opportunity to revise before proceeding. Tooltips provide educational insight without interrupting the writing flow, and a built-in tone meter helps writers better match their intent with their message.
Phase 3
Implementation
On the web platform, users can write directly in a rich text editor or copy and paste content for review. The environment adapts to user preferences, whether they’re a marketer writing a public message or an HR manager crafting internal communication. The browser extension extends these capabilities across the web, offering real-time suggestions inside Gmail, Slack, LinkedIn, and other popular platforms.
Phase 4
Maintenance & Enhancement
For future iterations, we also laid the groundwork for Fiksal’s mobile app, which will act as a smart keyboard. As users type on their phones, Fiksal will provide live feedback and educational prompts to keep communication respectful and on-brand across texts, social apps, and more.
