Challenge
When Io Corporation came to Motomtech, ReelTrain was already in use, but the platform was facing serious scalability and maintainability issues. The system had grown quickly, but without a solid technical foundation. Adding new features or modules was difficult and time-consuming, and the underlying architecture wasn’t robust enough to support long-term growth. At the same time, Io’s team needed to deliver key updates across a complex, role-based training system. The platform had to dynamically display content based on each user's role, department, and location, and include unique workflows for system admins, company admins, managers, and regular users. These roles interacted with everything from company-wide dashboards and employee KPIs to shout-outs, badges, and custom training modules.
Solution
Motomtech stepped in through its Technology Department as a Service model, providing dedicated technical resources to stabilize, enhance, and expand the ReelTrain platform.
Phase 1
Re-architecting
We helped Io Corp re-architect key parts of the system to make it more modular and easier to maintain, laying the groundwork for long-term development. We worked hand-in-hand with Io’s product and leadership team to implement and refine features like role-based feeds, module toggling at the admin level, and performance dashboards.
Phase 2
Software Development
Users now experience a mobile-optimized training feed personalized to their assigned location, area, and role. Managers can monitor team performance, approve shout-outs and badge nominations, and see how their locations stack up. Company admins have full access to dashboards, reporting tools, and training approval workflows. And system-level admins can oversee multiple customer organizations and configure available features at a granular level.
Phase 3
Maintenance & Enhancement
We also enhanced the backend logic for assigning content based on LARs (Location, Area, Role), ensuring that every user only sees the posts relevant to them. Through ongoing iterations, we added powerful features like knowledge-check questions to clear posts from a feed, optional gamification with points and rewards, and modular content controls that respond to customer-specific license settings. Thanks to this close collaboration, Io was able to turn ReelTrain into a fully scalable, enterprise-grade SaaS platform without losing its agility or user-friendly experience.
