Challenge
Before SmartCaps became a fully formed platform, the financial transaction process, especially for managing cap executions, was riddled with friction. Most teams juggled spreadsheets, emails, and document signatures across disconnected tools. Borrowers, lenders, and cap providers lacked a unified space to communicate, assign responsibilities, or track deal status in real-time. There was no reliable way to consolidate cap calculations or documentation without involving multiple systems and back-and-forth approvals, often leading to confusion, errors, and delays.
Solution
Motomtech supported SmartCaps through its Technology Department as a Service model, focusing on product conceptualization, user experience design, and prototyping.
Phase 1
Conceptualization
Our role was to define a product that could simplify complex cap execution workflows while meeting the specific needs of borrowers, lenders, and cap providers. We started by mapping out platform requirements through direct collaboration with stakeholders and industry professionals. This helped us understand not only the financial logic behind cap transactions, but also the operational pain points and compliance concerns that users were facing.
Phase 2
UI/UX Design
Based on this, we designed dedicated dashboards tailored to each user role, ensuring clarity and separation of responsibilities. One of the standout features we defined and prototyped was real-time collaboration on documents, allowing multiple stakeholders to work on pre-trade documents simultaneously, manage approvals, and execute e-signatures directly within the platform. This removed the need for scattered communication and external tools, creating a more secure and efficient process.
Phase 3
Software Prototype
We also integrated structured task management into the platform, giving users the ability to assign responsibilities, track progress, and maintain visibility throughout the cap execution lifecycle. Combined with advanced calculators and financial tools, the platform was shaped to be both practical and precise. Motomtech’s UI/UX team developed detailed wireframes and interactive prototypes that allowed stakeholders to test user flows and provide feedback early. This ensured the final product direction was aligned with both business goals and user expectations before moving into development.
