Valor
From Web to Mobile: Bringing Valor’s Multiplayer Universe to the Small Screen

About Valor
Valor is a real-time strategy MMO that has gathered a loyal player base through its compelling world-building and multiplayer warfare mechanics. With a game loop centered around building, battling, and expanding, players compete for dominance across a vast map. Originally a web-first experience, Valor’s next evolution was a mobile-native game that would bring the same depth and strategy to Android and iOS users.

Challenge
Valor already had a strong foundation and a passionate community, but its technical stack and architecture weren’t mobile-ready. The web version lacked a seamless mobile experience, which limited player retention and growth. Players expected a game they could take with them, without compromising performance or gameplay depth. The team behind Valor needed a partner who could help them take the leap to mobile without rebuilding everything from scratch. They also wanted to maintain the immersive mechanics of the original game while improving speed, responsiveness, and cross-platform play.
Solution
Motomtech’s Technology Department as a Service stepped in to lead the mobile transformation of Valor. The engagement was divided into three main phases:
Phase 1
Software Prototype
Motomtech collaborated closely with the client to redesign the player experience for mobile. This included crafting a responsive UI and intuitive UX flow that could support complex interactions like resource management, map navigation, and combat controls. Wireframes and a clickable prototype were created in this phase to validate design decisions with key stakeholders and testers.
Phase 2
Implementation
The mobile game was built using Unity for cross-platform compatibility and connected to Valor’s Ruby on Rails backend. Motomtech developed the mobile application architecture, implemented key gameplay features, and ensured smooth communication between the client and server. The MVP was delivered with core gameplay mechanics in place, optimized for real-time performance.
Phase 3
Maintenance & Enhancement
After launch, Motomtech continued to support the live mobile app with regular updates, roadmap-based features, and infrastructure optimizations. This included fine-tuning gameplay balance, improving loading times, fixing bugs, and responding to player feedback in real time. A continuous feedback loop with stakeholders ensured that every update added value to the gaming experience.
