Challenge
Wrent came to us with a bold vision: to digitize and simplify the fragmented world of tool rentals. But turning this idea into a scalable, three-sided platform required solving several complex challenges. Wrenters needed real-time access to local tools with reliable availability, flexible delivery options, and in-app messaging. Owners required a seamless way to list tools, manage rentals, and control drop-offs, pick-ups, and pricing, all without friction. At the same time, the admin side of the platform needed oversight tools for dispute resolution, policy management, and analytics to track performance.
Solution
Motomtech’s Technology Department as a Service was the perfect fit for Wrent’s ambitions. We assigned a dedicated cross-functional team to handle product research, UI/UX design, development, and continuous refinement.
Phase 1
Conceptualization
We began with deep discovery, by interviewing stakeholders and prospective users to understand workflows, expectations, and edge cases. This phase also included technical reviews of similar platforms and research into industry best practices. We compiled our findings into a comprehensive software blueprint that mapped out user roles, flows, and feature priorities.
Phase 2
Software Prototype
Our design team crafted wireframes and built an interactive prototype to visualize the complete experience for both Wrenters and Owners. We paid special attention to location-based filtering, mobile navigation, tool availability logic, and streamlined messaging. The prototype helped validate user flows and reduced the risk of rework later in development.
Phase 3
Implementation
Using React Native for the mobile apps and React.js for the admin dashboard, we built a scalable front-end experience backed by a NestJS backend. Stripe was integrated for secure payment processing, including rentals, fees, and refunds. Features like rental history, push notifications, customizable delivery settings, and ratings were all implemented in line with the blueprint. On the admin side, super users could manage cancellations, monitor platform activity, and resolve disputes from a single control panel.
Phase 4
Maintenance & Enhancement
Once live, our team continued refining the platform based on usage data and user feedback. We introduced real-time messaging, rental rebooking, and logic for overlapping availability and delivery fees. Weekly syncs ensured platform enhancements stayed aligned with Wrent’s evolving business goals.
